Lady Tigers, RCB play to scoreless draw

CLARKSBURG — Class AA-A No. 2 Elkins and No. 4 Robert C. Byrd played to a scoreless draw Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference play.

The Lady Tigers are now 9-1-1 and 5-0-1 in Big 10 games.

“Both teams played well,” EHS coach Scott Cutright said. “In the first half we controlled the ball very well and in the second half (RCB) picked up the tempo and for a 10:00 stretch controlled the game.”

Cutright said his squad came to life, however, down the stretch to create some scoring opportunities.

“We came to life and had some good looks,” he said. “Overall, we are pleased with the outcome and it was a good result to record a clean sheet.”

Taylor Phillips stopped six shots in goal for Elkins, which will return home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to face Grafton for another Big 10 contest.

“We have six conference games left and we play several key ones at home,” Cutright said

The defending state champion Lady Eagles are now 8-2-2 on the campaign.

Fairmont Senior 1, B-U 0

TENNERTON – Tyler Rosier’s goal in the 58th minuted lifted Fairmont Senior to a 1-0 win over Buckhannon-Upshur Tuesday at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.

Rosier won a long free kick from Seth Stilgenbauer in the box and deflected the ball into the net.

“I was very proud of the way the team reacted and played tonight,” Buccaneer coach Mike Donato said. “With little time to work through some key adjustments, we did a great job of creating quality chances and limiting a talented Fairmont Senior team. Although we didn’t get the win, the pieces are starting to come together.”

B-U held a 7-5 edge on shots on goal. Logan Kelley recorded six saves in net.
