ELKINS — Grafton tallied a goal with just 26 seconds left in regulation to tie Elkins, 1-1, Thursday night in Big 10 Conference play at Elkins High School Field.

The Tigers had taken a 1-0 lead on David Gongola’s second-half goal before the Bearcats turned up the offensive pressure over the final 10:00 of regulation.

EHS goalkeeper Greyson Howell made two key saves, including one on a penalty kick with 5:00 left, and another one with just under three minutes remaining before Grafton finally earned the tying goal.

“This was a tough one for us,” said Tiger coach Michael Sfameni. “To give up a goal that late was heartbreaking.”

Elkins (5-4-3) will host Weir at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

B-U 3, East Fairmont 3

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur boys soccer team battled East Fairmont to a 3-3 draw Thursday at Ted Crites Alumni Field at Tom Hasbrouck Stadium.

The Bucs trailed 2-0 before using back-to-back goals from Ryan Hurst to tie the game in the 47th minute, then taking the lead a minute later on Dawson Carpenter’s score off an assist from Hurst.

Tyler Sandreth and Carpenter were credited with assists on Hurst’s respective goals.

Aiden Slusser converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute to allow the Bees to earn the tie. Slusser also scored on a PK in the first half.

“This was a great result against a top-ranked team,” said B-U coach Mike Donato. “I was very proud how the team didn’t get down after giving up the early goals, and even holding the lead for most of the second half.”
