TV looks to stay in the playoff hunt

MILL CREEK — Tygarts Valley looks to stay in the playoff hunt with a win over Hundred tonight in the home finale at Bulldog Field.

Kickoff for the Mason-Dixon Conference matchup is set for 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs (4-3) are 17th in this week’s Class A ratings after getting past Wirt County, 20-12, last week as sophomore Kaden Boggs rushed for 123 yards and scored three times.

With leading rusher Daniel White out with an injury, senior fullback Elijah Scott added 56 yards on 13 totes.

Today’s game is key for Tygarts Valley in regards to the postseason as it concludes the campaign with road games at No. 19 Pocahontas County and No. 5 Doddridge County.

The Hornets enter the affair with a 1-7 mark after dropping a 54-30 decision to Hancock (Md.) last Friday.

Other games on tap for this evening include Lewis County at Philip Barbour, Brooke at Buckhannon-Upshur, Pendleton County at East Hardy, Petersburg at Moorefield at Pocahontas County at Summers County.

Class A, No. 9 Tucker County is idle.

In Philippi, the Colts look to pull off the upset in the finale at George Byrer Field at BC Bank Park against the playoff-minded Minutemen, who are rated 17th in double-A with a 5-3 mark.

The Colts, who were idle last week, notched their second win of the season two weeks ago by cruising past East Fairmont as senior running back Chase Collier rushed for 92 yards and found the end zone three times, while fellow senior Damien Gonzales completed 9 of 14 passes for 114 yards and rushed for an additional 56 yards and a score.

Lewis County’s balanced attack features the running of Marshall Hobbs, who rushed for 170 yards in last week’s 23-6 win over North Marion, Chase Beam and Isaiah Buciago. Quarterback Cade Rohrbough directs the passing game.

The Minutemen allowed over 200 yards rushing to the Huskies, but were able to capitalize on five turnovers, four of which were interceptions.

In Tennerton, B-U will be out to halt a four-game losing streak and ignite its slim playoff hopes when winless Brooke visits Freal “Red” Crites Memorial Stadium.

The Bucs are 2-5 on the campaign and 21st in this week’s Class AAA ratings. They are coming off a 46-19 setback at No. 13 University last Friday.

The Bruins enter the contest with an 0-7 mark.
