Petersburg girls best Wildcats

Burgess, Lantz each score 13 in victory

FRANKLIN — The Petersburg High School girls improved to 8-7 with a 69-25 win over Pendleton County on Tuesday night.

Jenna Burgess hit 5 of 9 at the line for the Lady Vikings toward 13 points, while teammate Kayla Lantz also put 13 in the scoring column.

Holding the Wildcats to a pair of six-point quarters in the first half, Petersburg went into the intermission with a 35-12 cushion.

With a 17-11 third-quarter verdict, the Vikes continued to use reserves as a 17-2 scoring edge in the fourth period unfolded.

Claire Heavner paced Pendleton County with 10 points, while Katie Scott bucketed six points.

Reece Hedrick with 12 points and Casey Watts with 10 capped off Petersburg’s four players in double-digit scoring.

Pendleton County is slated to host Tygarts Valley at 7:30 p.m. today in a non-conference contest.

Petersburg is scheduled to travel to East Hardy on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. contest with the Lady Cougars.
