Petersburg girls cruise to win over host East Hardy

BAKER — The Petersburg girls basketball team picked up a 47-9 road win over East Hardy on Friday night to improve to 9-7 on the season.

The Lady Vikings will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Potomac Valley Conference rival Keyser (10-5).

After a 23-0 first-half lead against the Lady Cougars, Petersburg went ahead, 37-3, in the third quarter.

East Hardy landed five different players in the scoring column with made buckets from Chelsea Keller, Perry Whetzel, Jaden Fleshman, Sarah Merritt and Katee Short.

Petersburg’s Kayla Lantz was the game’s lone player to reach double digits with 10 points.

Mackenzie Weasenforth dented the scoreboard with nine markers, while Jalyn Western and Mackenzie Kitzmiller contributed seven points apiece.

Mickala Taylor chipped in six points for the Vikes.

East Hardy (0-12) is slated to visit Union (4-9) for a Potomac Valley Conference tilt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
