Sneed set to join baseball staff at D&E

ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins College athletic department and head baseball coach Mason Heyne have announced the hiring of former professional baseball player Kramer Sneed as assistant baseball coach.

“I am extremely excited and fortunate to be able to add Kramer to our staff here at D&E. He is a great asset to the program, and will only help us in building our pitching staff from the ground up,” Heyne said.

Sneed will be involved in all facets of the program, specializing in working with the pitching staff.

Sneed comes to Elkins from Barton College, where he spent the fall of 2018 as a volunteer assistant coach. Previously, Sneed spent eight years in professional baseball. Following a three-year career at Barton, where he was named First Team All-Conference Carolinas and Academic All-Conference as a pitcher, Sneed was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 32nd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.

During his time in the Yankees organization, Sneed pitched for the GCL Yankees, Staten Island Yankees, Charleston Riverdogs and Tampa Yankees.

After being traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the Spring of 2013, Sneed was named a California League All-Star with the Inland Empire 66ers, who won the 2013 California League Championship. Sneed finished his career with stints on the double-A Arkansas Travelers and St. Paul Saints, where he tied the single season wins record, winning 15 games in 2015. He ended his professional career pitching over 860 innings and recording over 650 strikeouts.

“I am thrilled and grateful to Coach Heyne and Jamie Joss for the opportunity to coach here at D&E,” Sneed said. “I look forward to working hard with the student-athletes to develop a winning team on the baseball field and in the classroom.”

Sneed earned his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University Global in the summer of 2018 in liberal studies.
