Wilburn records 1,000th career point in D&E loss

The Inter-Mountain file photo D&E junior Kali Wilburn scored her 1,000th career point Thursday night at G-MAC foe Malone University.

CANTON, Ohio — Kali Wilburn scored her 1,000th career point in Davis & Elkins College’s 55-48 loss at Malone Thursday night in G-MAC play.

Wilburn, who led all scorers with 19 points, became the 22nd player in school history to reach the milestone, and the fifth player during Jason Asbel’s tenure to net over 1,000 career points, joining Page Turner (2009-13), Jorden Lykes (2010-14), Sharmaine Baker (2011-15) and Stephanie Wooten (2013-17).

The Lady Senators (4-13, 3-9 G-MAC) trailed by 15 points at halftime, but outscored the Lady Pioneers 29-21 in the second half, cutting the final deficit to seven at game’s end.

Tucker County product Sydney Nestor added 12 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Nicole Armstrong scored six points and grabbed six boards.

Jay Kilpatrick added seven points and five rebounds and Colleena Burdock had a team-high five assists.

Robin Campbell led the hosts with 13 points, followed by Chrissie Vaughan with 10. Ellen Doyle added 10 rebounds

D&E will remain on the road at Walsh at 1 p.m. Saturday for another league contest.

Walsh 88, AB 66

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Mayci Sales tallied 20 points and Walsh placed four players in double figures in taking an 88-66 win over Alderson Broaddus Thursday night in G-MAC women’s action.

Hannah Blake came off the bench to add 13 points for Walsh (13-5), while Kimmie Borck added 11 and Brittni Clopton 10.

Shelby Henkel had a team-high 10 rebounds and Lexie Scarton had seven assists.

Yolando Florido had 16 points, Jeana Weatherspoon 12 and Ta’Sharra Jeffries 11 for the Lady Battlers (3-12), who will visit Malone Saturday for another league tilt.
