ELKINS — A seventh-inning rally fell just short for Davis & Elkins College in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday as Alderson Broaddus completed a G-MAC sweep with a 3-2 victory at Harpertown Fields.

The contest was originally scheduled to be played in Philippi but moved to Elkins due to repairs at Jack Funk Field, with the Battlers being designated as the home team.

The Senators, who lost the lidlifter, 7-3, trailed 3-0 in the nightcap before freshman Andre Ramirez cracked a solo homer and Guiseppe Orlando raced home on an error to cut the lead to one run.

But with two runners on, Aidan Massad came on in relief and recorded a strikeout to end the threat and the game.

The contest was scoreless until AB pushed a single run across in the bottom of the fourth when Lane Casto singled and later scored on Todd Sekowski’s fielder’s choice.

The Battlers tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Sekowski and a sacrifice fly from Brock Stewart.

Nick Leonard pitched five scoreless innings, allowing five hits to earn the victory. He fanned six batters and walked two.

Shawn Pass took the loss for D&E in six innings pitched. He allowed five hits, struck out four and walked one.

Tanner Wickham and Orlando had two hits each to lead the Senators’ offensive attack.

In the opener, Stewart had two hits and knocked in four runs to pace AB at the plate. Sekowski also had a strong game at the dish for the Battlers, finishing with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. One of Sekowski’s hits was a home run.

Ryan Varley notched the win for the Battlers in 6 1/3 innings pitched. He surrendered three runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking one batter.

Brandon Plummer took the loss for Senators in 1 1/3 innings of relief work. Max Larimore got the start for D&E and scattered four hits in five innings pitched.

Chase DeGrood had three hits, including a home run to help lead the Senators’ offense.

D&E (0-21, 0-6 G-MAC) will host Ohio Dominican for a four-game series this weekend. The first of two doubleheaders is slated for noon on Saturday.

AB (7-14-1, 6-4)) will travel to Beckley to play a twin bill against Cedarville University at noon on Friday.
