Tigers cruise past Mountaineers

Tygarts Valley outslugs South Harrison, 21-14

CLARKSBURG — Tyler Davis had a two-run single during a five-run first inning and Read Schumacher went five strong innings on the mound as Elkins claimed a 12-1 win over Big 10 Conference foe Liberty on Tuesday

Jeremy Cogar and Matthew Gainer added two RBIs each for the Tigers. Gainer also had a pair of doubles and Remington Stanley and Schumacher two safeties each.

On the mound, Schumacher fanned six in his five innings of work.

Elkins (4-3) is scheduled to visit Preston in a Big 10 contest today and return home on Thursday to face Lincoln for a 5 p.m. contest.

TV 21, South Harrison 14

LOST CREEK – Tygarts Valley pounded out 24 hits to outslug South Harrison, 21-14, on Tuesday.

Daniel White and Ethan Kirk each had four hits and four RBIs for the Bulldogs, who trailed 9-7 after five innings before erupting for six runs in the sixth and eight in the seventh.

White finished with two doubles and a triple.

Willie Walden, Logan George and Ethan Lanham added three hits and two RBIs each for Tygarts Valley, while Jake Tackett, Noah Armstrong and Garrett Gibson had two hits apiece and Riley Tackett two RBIs.

Noah Dyer was 3 for 5 with three RBIs for the Hawks. Brandon Gray added three hits and Colby Posey and Camden Southern two RBIs each.

Kirk earned the win in four innings of relief, allowing five runs on eight hits and fanning four.

Southern, one of five pitchers used by South Harrison, was tagged with the loss. He gave up eight runs on nine hits in 1 2/3 innings.

The Bulldogs (1-3) are scheduled to remain on the road at 5 p.m. today against Doddridge County.

Pendleton County 8, Petersburg 4

PETERSBURG — Pendleton County used a six-run fourth inning to pull past Petersburg, 8-4, Monday in non-conference action.

The Wildcats, who improved to 4-1 with the victory, trailed 3-1 before their bats came to life in the fourth frame. Grant Evick struck the big blow in the inning with a two-run double. Jared Lambert added a two-run single in the frame, while Aiden Cooney also collected a two-bagger.

Cooney notched the win for Pendleton County in two innings of relief work. He scattered two hits and struck out two.

Cameron Kisamore finished with three hits at the dish for the Wildcats. Evick had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored.

Jacob Hartman suffered the loss for the Vikings in four innings of work. He allowed four runs on five hits.

Blake Loy and Dawson Tingler led Petersburg at the plate with two hits each.

The Vikings will travel to Moorefield today for their next contest.

Pendleton County will visit Union for a 5 p.m. contest on Thursday.
