Bowers cracks pair of homers as Lady Tigers win

ELKINS — Morgan Bowers blasted a pair of runs as the Elkins High School softball team blanked Grafton 4-0 Wednesday on senior night at Betty Heckel Field.

Bowers, a junior, finished with three hits and drove in all four runs for the Lady Tigers.

Dacey Arbogast tossed a complete-game one-hitter to earn the win, striking out five and walking one.

“It was a good win for our seniors,” Elkins coach Sona Delawder said. “Our defense was solid and the home runs were the difference in the game.

“I was proud of Morgan with her achievements tonight.”

Seniors on the Lady Tiger roster include Alexis Ice, Haley Smith, Allison Smith and Gracee Huffman.

Elkins also knocked off Bridgeport, 8-3, on Monday in the first game of a doubleheader as Baylee Shiflett had three hits and two RBIs, Bowers two RBIs and Arbogast a pair of hits.

Arbogast also went all seven innings to earn the win. She gave up three runs on four hits, fanning six and walking five.

The Lady Tigers are now 8-12 and will now prepare of the start of sectional play next week.

B-U 11, Preston 1

KINGWOOD –Alli Robinson and Shelby McDaniels each drove in two runs to power Buckhannon-Upshur to an 11-1 win over Preston in three innings on Wednesday.

Alyssa Rohr and Robinson each had a pair of hits and both scored three runs for the Lady Bucs.

Rohr also earned the win, allowing just one run on one hit he going all three frames.

She struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

B-U finished the regular season 15-10 and will begin sectional play next week.
