Schumacher, Bennett lead EHS to victory
ELKINS — The Elkins High School baseball team claimed a 9-3 victory over Grafton Wednesday night in Big 10 Conference action.
Jeremy Cogar went the distance at Elkins High School/Post 29 Field to earn the win for the Tigers, scattering three runs on 11 hits, fanning five and walking one.
Read Schumacher and Alan Bennett paced the Elkins offense with a pair of RBIs apiece.
Matthew Gainer added an RBI and Corey Reed a double and an RBI.
Chris Miller drove in all three runs for the Bearcats on a pair of hits, while Thomas Summers tallied three hits and Garrett Williams and Braden Nose two safeties each.
Garrett Moats went all six innings in taking the loss. He gave up nine runs on five hits, fanning two and walking four.
The Tigers (15-8) are scheduled to visit Class AA, No. 1 Bridgeport at 5 p.m. today.

MORGANTOWN – Three different players recorded four RBIs as Tygarts Valley cruised past Trinity Christian 23-0 on Wednesday.
Willie Walden, Ethan Kirk and Ethan Lanham each drove in four runs for the Bulldogs, who finished with 12 hits on the night and took advantage of five Trinity errors.
Garrett Gibson and Matthew Pratt also drove in three runs for the Bulldogs.
Logan George went two hitless innings to earn the win, while Kirk and Gibson finished in relief.
Tygarts Valley (10-12) is scheduled to host Doddridge County at 6 p.m. today.
Pendleton 10, Washington 2
CHARLES TOWN – Aiden Cooney allowed just one run over six innings as Pendleton County claimed a 10-2 win over Washington on Wednesday night.
Cooney allowed just two hits and fanned four.
Isaiah Gardner worked the final inning, allowing one run on two hits.
Grant Evick went 3 for 4 with RBIs at the plate for the Wildcats, while Jared Lambert cracked a three-run double, Kole Puffenberger went 3 for 5 with a triple and Timmy Thorne was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Pendleton County (14-5) will host Harman today.
