District 8 tourney begins today in Elkins

Elkins, Tygart Valley and Belington 9-10 year-olds in action

ELKINS — The Elkins Little League 9-10 year-old All-Star team will host the District 8 Tournament beginning today at River Bend Park. Braxton and Belington will square off in the first contest at 2 p.m., while Elkins and Tygart Valley battle it out at 4:30 p.m.

There will be two more contests on Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with Monday’s games slated for 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Beginning on Tuesday, there will be just one contest each evening until the conclusion of the double-elimination tournament.

“We have some pretty good talent on this team,” said Elkins manager Lance Marcum. “Hosting the tournament is a plus not only for the kids but for the parents as well.”

Elkins’ All-Star roster consists of Dyer Barger, Nevin Bennett, Brayden Biller, Dreyton Boggs, Trevor George, Trevor Hogue, Nijah Howell, Kaden Marcum, Ethan Riggleman, Isaac Shepler, Avery Simmons, Owen Stanley and Trent Stone. The team is managed by Lane Marcum and the coaches are Justin Stanley and Steve Stone.

Tygart Valley will make the short trek down to compete in the tournament. Team members for Tygart Valley include Caleb Teter, Owen Bell, Drew Arbogast, Luke Wamsley, Bryson Taylor, Preston Smith, Hannah Cabaniss, Cooper Markley, J.J. Chamberlin, Shayla Martin, Anthony Kiley and Austin George. The squad is managed by Josh Teter.

“We’re happy we get to play the tournament locally,” Teter said.

“The kids are tickled to death to start playing and they’re ready to go.”
