Elkins wins opening game, Tygart Valley stays alive

9-10 year-old district action continues today

ELKINS — Tygart Valley and Summersville collected wins Sunday in Little League District 8 Tournament action at River Bend Park.

The Tygart Valley 9-10 year-old All Stars, which fell to Elkins 21-7 on Saturday, staved off elimination by defeating Belington, 15-5.

Bryson Taylor earned the win for Tygart Valley in three innings pitched. He struck out nine batters and helped his own cause at the plate with three hits.

Caleb Teter also had three hits for Tygart Valley, which will face Braxton County in another elimination game today at 8:30 p.m. Braxton County fell to Summersville, 16-6, in the other contest on Sunday.

Isaiah Watson pitched for Belington, while Waylon Morgan had one hit at the dish. Belington, which dropped a 12-11 decision to Braxton County on Saturday, was eliminated with the loss.

Elkins’ Owen Stanley attempts to tag out Tygart Valley’s Owen Bell in a rundown on Saturday. Elkins won the game, 21-7, and will face Summersville at 6 p.m. today.

“The kids are excited that they bounced back with a win,” said Tygarts Valley manager Josh Teter.

“They came to play and wanted a win on Father’s Day for all the dads.”

Trent Stone had four hits to help lift Elkins to its 21-7 victory over Tygart Valley on Saturday.

Owen Stanley added three hits, while Nijah Howell was the winning pitcher.

Taylor and Preston Smith has two hits each for Tygarts Valley.

Elkins will face Summersville today at 6 p.m. in a winner’s bracket contest.
