Shamblin set to guide AB softball team

Glenville grad served as interim coach for Battlers during spring

PHILIPPI — Alderson Broaddus Director of Athletics Carrie Bodkins has announced the hiring of Luke Shamblin as the new softball coach.

Shamblin was the Battlers’ interim coach during the 2019 campaign.

“Luke provided stability and growth in the softball program last year,” Bodkins said. “We look forward to seeing Luke continue to improve the program with the interim tag removed.”

Under Shamblin in 2019, the Battlers doubled their win total from 2018.

The offense boasted an increase of 71 runs and a team batting average that rose by 38 points.

“I’d like to thank athletic director Carrie Bodkins for the opportunity to lead the Alderson Broaddus softball program going forward,” Shamblin said. “AB softball has a great history and I look forward to trying to rebuild the program to its winning ways of the past.”

Prior to his time at AB, Shamblin spent three seasons as an assistant at Mount Olive. While with the Spartans, Shamblin coached nine all-conference players, including a first-team All-Southwest Region selection.

Shamblin served as the hitting coach for two seasons at Glenville State. In his first season, the team’s .287 average was a school record.

Shamblin is a 2010 graduate of Glenville State.
