WVU women blank Duquesne in opener

MORGANTOWN — The 11th-ranked West Virginia women’s soccer team opened the regular season with a 2-0 win over Duquesne Friday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

Jade Gentile gave the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead after scoring a first-half goal off an assist by Jordan Brewster.

The score came in the 27th minute.

Freshman Julianne Vallerand added a goal in the second half to set the final score.

WVU held a dominating 21-0 advantage on shots on goal.

West Virginia will return to action Sunday when the Mountaineers battle No. 2 Stanford at University Park (Pa.).
