Charleston blanks Wesleyan, 1-0, on Hill’s first-half goal

ELKINS — Concord University remained unbeaten on the season with a 1-0 victory over Davis & Elkins College Saturday in Mountain East Conference action at Nuttall Field.

The Lady Mountain Lions, who improved to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in league play with the win, held a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal for the contest.

The lone ball finding the back of the net came at the 13:50 mark of the first half when Courtney Wallace scored an unassisted goal.

The Lady Senators (2-2, 1-1) had three corner kicks in the match compared to six from Concord University.

D&E goalkeeper Katie Clarke had a solid showing in net with 11 saves. Her counterpart Katie Maher stopped four shots.

The Lady Senators (2-2, 1-1 MEC) will travel to Amherst, New York, on Wednesday to battle Daemen College, which is also unbeaten on the season with a 5-0-1 overall record.

Charleston 1, Wesleyan 0

CHARLESTON — The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at the hands of the University of Charleston Sunday in Mountain East Conference action at the Welch Athletic Complex.

Keira Hill scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Lady Golden Eagles (3-3, 1-1 MEC) 16 minutes into the contest.

Charleston held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal for the game.

The Lady Bobcats had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, while goalkeeper Chelsea Hubner had six saves in net for the visitors.

Wesleyan will return to action Wednesday when it entertains Concord for another conference contest. Charleston will travel to Glenville State for a league match the same evening.
