D&E harriers win opening meet

BETHANY – The Davis & Elkins cross country teams ran to first place at the Bethany Invitational held on Saturday.

The Lady Senators finished with just 21 points. They were followed by Waynesburg (Pa.) (88), Indiana University (Pa.) (104), Point Park (107) and West Liberty (108).

D&E’s Claire Otte cleared the course in a time of 22:38 to take first-place honors. She was followed by teammate Svea Timm (22:49) in second.

Madison Michels (fourth, 23:12), Anya Miller (sixth, 23:29), Kloe Littleman (eighth, 23:47), Skylee Watson (18th, 24:35) and Danielle Jividen (37th, 25:29) rounded out the Lady Senators’ finishers.

The D&E men tallied 50 points en route to their win.

Other teams competing included Franciscan (74), IUP (84), West Liberty (128) and California (Pa.) (137).

Matthew Chapman crossed the line in third place in a time of 26:42 to pace the Senators. Other finishers included Aidan Konhaus (fourth, 26:45), Scott Barker (fifth, 26:58), David Magda (16th, 27:30), Felix Buck-Gramcko (22nd, 27:52), Caleb Carlson (41st, 28:26) and Hayden Harrison (47th, 28:46).

Franciscan’s Liam Galligan captured the race in a time of 25:58.

Both D&E teams will return to action Sept. 21 at the Lock Haven Invitational.

College golf

D&E women place 16th

NORTH EAST, Pa. — The Davis & Elkins College women’s golf team opened the season by placing 16th at the Evann Parker Memorial on Saturday.

The Lady Senators finished the two-day tournament with a team score of 782.

Gannon finished first among the 18-team field with a 656.

Victoria Adkins and Kaitlin Dixon both shot two-day totals of 189s to tie for 60th to lead D&E.

West Chester’s Megan O’Maray was low medalist with a two-day score of 147, 3-over par.

The Lady Senators were slated to begin play at the two-day Michael Corbett Fall Classic, hosted by Gannon, on Monday.
