Lady Tiger spikers sweep Liberty

Rally from nine-point deficit in final game in posting Big 10 victory

ELKINS — The Elkins High School volleyball team defeated Liberty in three games Tuesday evening in Big 10 Conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

After posting identical 25-20 wins in the first two sets, the Lady Tigers found themselves down by nine points in the third game before rallying for a 29-27 win.

“I was really impressed with the way we battled back in the third game,” Elkins coach Penny Crawford said. “We showed tremendous grit and spunk, and were determined not to let the match go to a fourth game. It was a great team effort and I was really proud of the girls tonight.”

Senior Sam Price led Elkins (2-2, 1-1 Big 10) with 14 kills and five ace serves. Fellow senior Harmony Wilson added four kills, three solo blocks and two ace serves for the hosts.

Morgan Bowers finished with 12 set assists for the Lady Tigers, while Dacey Arbogast tallied nine and also had two ace serves. Bailey Tracy chipped in with three kills and Kayla Auvil had one. Alainah Johnson had a pair of aces and made several key saves.

After winning Game 1 by a score of 25-22, the Lady Tigers’ junior varsity team dropped the next two in their match by scores of 25-20 and 25-19.

Hannah Beam finished with four set assists and four ace serves in a losing effort. Olivia Guire had three ace serves and three kills, while Rumble Arbogast had three set assists. Kelsey Swecker also came away with three kills for Elkins, which fell to 0-2 in junior varsity play.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Lincoln today for another league contest.
