Tucker golfers lose first match

SNOWSHOE — Moorefield captured a four-team Potomac Valley Conference match held Tuesday at the Raven Golf Course.

While using the best three individual scores on the links, team totals put the Yellow Jackets in first place with a 131 over nine holes.

Low-medalist honors went to Moorefield’s Trace Miller, who carded a 41 on the day.

It was the first loss of the season for short-handed Tucker County, which nabbed second with a 141.

The Mountain Lions, now 8-1 on the season, were playing without their No. 3 golfer, who was out with an illness.

Sophomore Harper Russell paced Tucker County with a 43. Holden Young inked a 46, while respective tallies of 52 and 53 were shot by Nathan Dearborn and Wyatt Betler.

Pendleton County was third with a 168.

The Wildcats’ scoring included a team-best 50 from Peyton Beachler. Marshall Harper’s 57 and a pair of 61s from Tanner Townsend and Elijah Butler rounded out Pendleton’s scorecard.

Host Tygarts Valley was also in action but didn’t field a full team.

Seniors Cole Arbogast and Mackenzie Staten, however, checked in with respective rounds of 49 and 54.

Moorefield’s scoring also included 45s from J.J. Carr and Ryan McGregor, and a 49 for Hayden Baldwin.

Tucker County is slated to be back in action today at Pendleton County.

Tygarts Valley is scheduled to travel to Elkins at 4 p.m. on Monday.
