Bike team wins title at ‘Rally in the Valley’

POCAHONTAS COUNTY — The Highlands Composite Mountain Bike Team competed in their second race of the season and the team took the first-place team title at the Rally in the Valley event at Canaan Valley Resort on Sept. 15.

The home race held up to everyone’s expectations: beautiful weather, tons of local support, and a lot of personal accomplishments for each athlete.

In the sixth-grade boy’s division: Andrew Sproul finished sixth, Andrew Tesar placed 12th, Kaden George took 13th, Brennan Rexrode finished 24th, and Hayden Simms placed 25th.

In the sixth-grade girl’s division: Zanna Logar captured first, Emma Ujvagi took second, Lily Anderson placed third, and Allison Judy rounded the podium in fifth.

In the seventh-grade boy’s division: Quincy Miller finished second, Cooper Ruud placed 10th, and Mason Powell took 12th.

Iris Dubansky placed second for the seventh-grade girl’s division.

In the eighth-grade boy’s division: Daniel Dodds finished second.

In the freshman girl’s division: Alyssa White finished first.

In the freshman boy’s division: Ashton White took first place and Bradan Andrews captured 16th place.

In the JV girl’s division: Isabelle Judy placed first, Addie Berdine took second, and Isabella White finished third.

In the JV boy’s division: Nate Dearborn took third place, Jasper Clark placed fourth, and Holden Young finished in seventh place.

In the varsity boy’s division: Eli Balantyne placed third.

Overall points leaders for the 2019 race season include: Isabelle Judy in the JV girl’s division, Ashton White in the freshman boy’s division, Alyssa White in the freshman girl’s division, and Zanna Logar in the sixth-grade girl’s division.
