D&E and Urbana play to scoreless draw

ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins women’s soccer team battled Urbana to a scoreless deadlock Sunday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Nuttall Field.

The Lady Senators (5-3-2, 4-2-1 MEC) outshot the Lady Blue Knights (5-4-1, 5-2-1) 16-11 in the contest, but where unable to capitalize on their chances.

Goalkeeper Sierra Curtis collected 11 saves in net for Davis & Elkins, which held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Urbana’s Hazel Sands stopped 16 shots from the Lady Senators, five of which came from Asheli Freed.

Davis & Elkins will travel to a Notre Dame (Ohio) on Thursday for another MEC contest.

Malone 6, Alderson Broaddus 0

CANTON, Ohio — Danielle Lung recorded a hat trick to lead Malone to a 6-0 win over Alderson Broaddus Saturday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.

Lung opened the scoring for the Lady Pioneers (7-1, 4-1 G-MAC) with her first goal of the contest just six minutes into the match.

Lung added two more goals in the first half and Sally Culig hit for another as Malone, which held a 12-0 advantage in shots-on-goal, took a 4-0 lead into the break.

The Lady Pioneers added another goal early in the second half half and Kirsten Hilty capped off the scoring in the contest with a score at the 57:46 mark.

Alexis McKeown had seven saves in net for the Lady Battlers (2-7, 0-6), who will entertain Tiffin University on Thursday.
