Tigers drop 7-0 verdict to PBHS

D&E women’s tennis team stays perfect with wins in Virginia

ELKINS — The Elkins High School boys soccer team dropped a 7-0 decision to sectional and Big 10 Conference foe Philip Barbour Tuesday evening for senior night at EHS Field.

The Tigers will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Buckhannon-Upshur to conclude regular-season play.

The Colts will also be in action on Thursday, hosting Lewis County for senior night at 7:30 p.m.

Soccer sectional play is scheduled to get underway on Monday for area squads.

Women’s college tennis

Senators Snag Two Wins at Hollins Invitational

ROANOKE, Va. — The Davis & Elkins College women’s tennis team stayed perfect on the season, picking up two wins over the weekend at the Hollins Invitational.

The tournament was played in a modified format, with each team entering two doubles teams and three singles players, and players only able to play one event per match.

D&E opened with a 4-1 win over Salem (N.C.), sweeping all of the matches it entered, with the Spirits winning their only point by forfeit at No. 3 singles.

Taylour Newman picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles, while Ester Bolmenas was solid in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

Rosalie Naber and Laura Vargas won 8-0 at No. 1 doubles in their first match as a doubles pair, while the freshman duo of Elysia Cain and Cara Long won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

In their second match, the Senators took on Hollins, edging out the host institution in a 3-2 victory.

Bolmenas picked up her second singles win on the day, winning 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Cain and Long stayed perfect on the day with an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while the Senators won No. 2 doubles by forfeit.

D&E will close out the fall season with a weekend trip to Pennsylvania this upcoming weekend, taking on Kutztown on Friday and Bloomsburg on Saturday.
