Area players recognized by WVHSSCA
TENNERTON — The West Virginia High School Soccer Coaches Association (WVHSSCA) all-state teams were recently announced.
Elkins High School’s Sofia Triplett, Buckhannon-Upshur’s Ryan Hurst and Philip Barbour’s Ethan Gregory earned first-team selections in their respective classes.
Triplett, a senior forward, was named to the Class AA-A girls first team.
Three Philip Barbour players earned second-team honors. They included junior midfielder Payton Gregory, senior defender Brittany Lawrence and senior keeper Cloie Mossesso.
Pocahontas County junior midfielder Savannah McMillion also was named to the second unit.
Honorable mention selections included Elkins senior midfielder Isabella Karlen and Pocahontas County senior forwards Kira Bircher and Laila Calhoun.
Hurst, a junior forward, was honored on the Class AAA boys first unit.
Teammates Dawson Carpenter (senior MF), junior Lane Tenney (junior, MF), Sam Squires (junior, D) and Logan Kelley (senior, GK) were listed as honorable mention.
B-U junior defender Kennedy Samargo was named to the Class AAA girls second team. Junior midfielder Maggie Nolte was an honorable-mention selection.
Ethan Gregory, a sophomore midfielder, received first-team honors on the Class AA-A boys squad.
PB’s Noah Ward (senior, F), Caleb Shipley (senior, MF), Tre Riffle (senior, D) and Hunter Ware (senior, D) were honorable-mention choices, along with Elkins senior defender Devan Fletcher and Pocahontas County senior forward Kolton Alderman.
