D&E cross country teams make history
Both squads secure first-ever berths in NCAA Division II National Championships
LOCK HAVEN – The Davis & Elkins women’s and men’s cross country teams made history at the D-II Atlantic Regional meet held over the weekend.
Both squads earned their first-ever berths in the NCAA National Championships. It was also the first time in history two schools from West Virginia qualified both the women’s and men’s teams for the NCAA Nationals in the same year.
The Lady Senators placed five runners among the top 20 to place second with 68 points in the Atlantic Regional meet. Edinboro (62) took the team title to earn a spot in nationals, along with third-place finisher Seton Hill (137).
Svea Timm placed fourth to lead D&E in a time of 21:40. Madison Michels was 13th (22:14), Claire Otte 14th (22:15), Kloe Littleman 18th (22:25), Anya Miller 19th (22:27), Hannah Moore 57th (23:20) and Skylee Watson 121st (24:46).
Edinboro’s Stefanie Parsons won the race in a time of 21:02.
The D&E men, meanwhile, secured a national berth by placing third with 127 points. Fellow Mountain East Conference member Charleston won the team title with 66 points. Edinboro also qualified for nationals by placing second with 87 points.
The Senators were led by David Magda’s 15th-place showing in a time of 32:16. Other D&E finishers included Felix Buck-Gramcko (17th, 32:25), Emeric Arnaud (18th, 32:26), Aidan Konhaus (22nd, 32:30), Hayden Harrison (63rd, 33:33), Will LeMaster (66th, 33:38) and Scott Barker (71st, 33:43).
The D-II NCAA National Championships will be held Nov. 23 in Sacramento, California.
