D&E harriers set for regional meet

Both squads look to qualify for nationals Saturday at Lock Haven University

ELKINS — The Davis & Elkins College cross country teams are set to compete in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships Saturday at Lock Haven University (Pa.).

Both teams are coming off strong performances in the Mountain East Conference Championships held two weeks ago at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.

The Lady Senators, ranked first in the Atlantic Region the past six weeks, continued their dominating season by winning the title as Claire Otte won the race and Svea Timm was named both the MEC runner and freshman of the year.

All seven runners for D&E earned all-conference honors. Otte, Timm, Anya Miller, Madison Michels and Kloe Littleman were first-team selections, while Hannah Moore and Elkins High School product Skylee Watson were second-team honorees.

Jason Pyles was honored as the Coach of the Year as well.

The D&E men, meanwhile, posted a second-place finish at the MEC meet and are ranked third regionally.

David Magda ran to a fourth-place showing in the league championship. Teammates Felix Buck-Gracko and Aidan Konhaus also earned first-team all-conference laurels.

Matthew Chapman and Scott Barker were second-team selections as well.

Emerick Arnaud, who was the G-MAC Freshman of the Year in track and field last spring, could also be in the lineup on Saturday.

The women’s race will begin at 10:30 a.m. over the West Branch Cross Country Course, followed by the men at 11:45 a.m.

The top three teams advance to the NCAA national meet, which will be held Nov. 23 in California.
