No. 2 Bridgeport blanks PB, 48-0
BRIDGEPORT – Class AA, No. 2 Bridgeport jumped out to a 28-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back in handing Philip Barbour a 48-0 setback Friday night at Wayne Jamison Field.
Sam Romano, who had three touchdowns on the night, put the Indians (9-1) on the board just 11 seconds into the contest when he returned the opening kickoff 78 yards.
Devin Vandergrift then scored on a 9-yard quarterback keeper to extend the lead to 14-0.
With 4:16 still remaining in the first quarter, Romano hauled in a 46-yard score from Cam Cole.
Romano capped off his big first quarter with a 44-yard TD pass from Vandergrift to make it 28-0 after one quarter.
Vandergrift added a 58-yard TD run and Cole a 53-yard scamper in the second quarter.
The second half was limited to two 8:00 quarters and a running clock in the fourth frame.
Owen Bennington finished the scoring with a 6-yard run with 3:47 left in the game.
PB ended the season with an 0-10 mark.
