Pendleton falls short to Central in Class A semis

FRANKLIN – No. 3 Pendleton County dropped a 27-7 decision to defending state champion and 10th-seed Wheeling Central Friday in Class A semifinal action.

The Maroon Knights (9-4) will face top-rated Dodddridge County (13-0) in the championship game at 7 p.m. next Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium. The Bulldogs defeated No. 5 Williamstown, 27-3, in Friday night’s other semifinal.

The Wildcats, who ended the season 11-2, struck first to take a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter.

Wheeling Central then scored 20 unanswered points to lead by 13 at halftime, and added an insurance score in the third quarter to break the game open.

Bluefield 40

Fairmont Senior 24

FAIRMONT – No. 4 Bluefield knocked off defending champion and top-rated Fairmont Senior, 40-24, Friday night in Class AA semifinal action.

Carson Deeb had four touchdown passes in the win. He hit Brandon Wiley for two of the scores, covering 28 and 68 yards, and also found Jahiem House from 14 and 17 yards out.

The Beavers (12-1) will face today’s winner between Bridgeport and Oak Glen Friday night in the title game.
