No. 9 Tygarts Valley set to host top-rated Doddridge on Friday

MILL CREEK – It will be a top 10 Class A matchup on Friday night when top-rated Doddridge County visits No. 9 Tygarts Valley.

In a battle of Bulldogs, Tygarts Valley — depending on the other results around the state on Friday night — remains mathematically alive to secure at least one home playoff game with a win over Doddridge County, which is 9-0 on the season.

TV (7-2) has rebounded from a two-game skid with back-to-back victories over Trinity Christian and Pocahontas County.

Doddridge, meanwhile, has been dominant this season, recording shutouts in five games, winning by a margin of 36 points per game and recording victories over top 5 teams — No. 2 Ritchie County (27-18) and No. 5 Williamstown (20-7) last week.

Pendleton County, despite a lopsided 35-0 loss at Moorefield, dropped just two spots to third in this week’s SSAC ratings released on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (9-1) will host double-A Berkeley Springs (2-7) on Friday night.

Greenbrier West checks in at fourth, while Moorefield is 13th and East Hardy 14th.

In double-A, Fairmont Senior is No. 1, followed by Bridgeport and Poca.

Keyser and Frankfort, tied for the fourth spot with Bluefield, battle Friday night in Keyser.

The Polar Bears and Indians will conclude regular-season play against East Fairmont and Philip Barbour, respectively.

Big 10 squads North Marion, Liberty and Lewis County also remain in the hunt for the postseason, with the eighth-rated Huskies already securing a spot.

They will travel to No. 15 Liberty for a key matchup on Friday night.

The Minutemen conclude the regular season at home against 1-9 Grafton.

Martinsburg, Cabell Midland, Spring Valley, Parkersburg South and Musselman comprise the top five in Class AAA.

Preston, after a win at Buckkhannon-Upshur last Friday, is 15th and can secure a playoff berth with a victory at Brooke.
