Bulldogs get past Hawks to open season
George fires in 25 points in game played in front of student body
MILL CREEK — Logan George scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Tygarts Valley downed South Harrison, 61-46, Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both squads inside TVHS gymnasium.
The contest was played in front of the student body and the Bulldogs (1-0) seemed to feed off the energy of a packed house early on, jumping out to 19-9 advantage after one quarter of play and controlling a 33-24 lead at intermission.
“The effort was definitely there today,” Tygarts Valley coach Tom Wamsley said. “We just made a few of those first game of the year mistakes that you expect with it being the opener. We put them (South Harrison) on the foul line too much and that’s something we’re going to have to clean up going forward.”
When asked about George’s stellar performance, Wamsley said it’s something he and his coaching staff have grown accustomed to.
“He averaged a double-double last year, so we expect that out of him,” he said. “It just shows that his work ethic is paying off. Nobody works as hard as Logan does and it’s a luxury to have him.”
Josh Bright and Cole Arbogast added eight points each for Tygarts Valley, which led 46-37 entering the final quarter. The hosts put the contest away with a 15-9 scoring advantage in the final frame.
Hunter Foster led the Hawks (0-1), who connected on 20 of 34 shots from the free-throw line, with 12 points. Corey Boulden followed with 11.
TV will travel to Harman on Wednesday for its next contest, while South Harrison will visit Clay-Battelle on Dec. 23.
