Tucker falls to Preston

HAMBLETON — Tucker County fell to 0-2 on the young season Saturday evening via a 73-35 setback to non-conference triple-A Preston.

The Mountain Lions opened the campaign on the road last Wednesday with a 55-17 loss to Southern Garrett, Maryland.

Preston edged Tucker County, 14-12, in the opening canto and then put up 22 second-quarter points for a 36-25 advantage by halftime. The Knights outscored the hosts 23-8 in the third and 14-2 in the fourth.

The Mountain Lions were paced by Wyatt Betler’s 17 points and six rebounds. Trey Key accounted for six points and five boards, while Rudy Pennington pulled down six rebounds.

Nick Smith had 19 points for Preston. Jayden Fultz added 17 points.

Tucker County will travel to Potomac Valley Conference rival Pendleton County on Tuesday. It will be the season opener for the host Wildcats.
