D&E wrestling challenged at open

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College wrestling team resumed their season following the winter break, taking to the mat Saturday in Millersville, Pennsylvania, for the Shorty Hitchcock Open, hosted by Millersville University.

The field included several unattached Division I wrestlers and Division I teams, and proved to be a difficult challenge for the young Senators.

In the 165-lb. weight class, Noah Tarr’s run to the quarterfinals included two wins over Division I foes, pinning Evan Vazquez of Rider in the third period and winning 11-3 by major decision over Bucknell’s Joey Schiele, before being stopped by Jake Keatrig of Virginia in the quarterfinals.

CJ Thompson took down host school Millersville’s Josh Tuckey by third period pin at 149 pounds, before falling to Gabe Miller of Penn in the second round.

The 141 pounders Nicholas Natarcola and Tyler Cutright each picked up two wins on the day, while Craig Cook (133 lbs.) and Chad Tracy (157 lbs.) were the other winners for the Senators.

D&E will head back to Pennsylvania next weekend for Saturday’s Kutztown Duals, with action starting at 10 a.m. in Kutztown, Pa.
