Lady Bucs and EHS boys capture tri-meet at D&E

B-U’s Vincent, Whitehair and Zuliani each win two races; Whetsell leads Tigers

ELKINS –Buckhannon-Upshur freshman Cadence Vincent had two blazing times in picking up a pair of wins in a tri-meet held Wednesday at Davis & Elkins College’s George A. Myles Pool.

Vincent turned in a time of 2:15.32 in the 200-yard IM, while clocking an effort of 59.94 in the 100 backstroke.

Vincent was also part of the winning Lady Bucs’ 200 medley relay team, along with Alayna Whitehair, McKenzie Reynolds and Cameron Zuliani, that turned in a time of 2:01.51.

Whitehair also claimed the 50 freestyle (28.03) and 500 freestyle (6:03.13), Zuliani the 100 butterfly (1:02.82) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.94) and Reynolds the 100 freestyle (1:04.35),

B-U’s foursome of Merrody Malone, Jenny Williams, Reynolds and Zuliani captured the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:55.43 and Whitehair, Abby Loudin, Emma Reger and Vincent took the 400 freestyle relay in 4:21.02.

Hannah Phillips won the 200 freestyle (2:17.80) for the Lady Tigers. She was also second in the 500 freestyle (6:21.30), along with Isabelle Judy in the 100 butterfly (1:08.48) and Addie Berdine in the 100 freestyle (1:09.10).

The team of Judy, Ruby Jackson, Kaleigh Edwards and Phillips placed second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:56.73) and Phillips, Edwards and Judy teamed with Berdine to place second in the 400 freestyle relay (4:27.29).

Earning first-place finishes for the EHS boys were the 200 medley relay team of Austin Whetsell, Ivan Looney-Sanders, Luke Anger and Tyler Ludwig in a time of 2:00.09, Whetsell in the 200 freestyle (2:14.58) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.12), Looney-Sanders in the 200 IM (2:38.44), Ludwig in the 50 freestyle (27.08), Luke Anger in the 100 butterfly (1:02.89), Elijah Jones in the 500 freestyle (6:04.58) and the team of Looney-Sanders, Jones, Anger and Whetsell in the 400 freestyle relay (4:00.14).

Taking firsts for the Bucs were freshman Preston Bennett in the 100 freestyle (52.98) and 100 backstroke (1:00.93) and the 200 freestyle relay of Bennett, Reis Leonard, Dane Ammons and Sam Squires in a time of 1:44.13.

In the team results, the B-U girls defeated Liberty (116-13) and EHS (103-65), while the Lady Tigers bested Liberty (133-11).

The EHS boys defeated B-U (102-50) and Liberty (129-6), while the Bucs downed the Mountaineers (68-9).

Both Elkins and B-U will host meets next Wednesday against Doddridge and Bridgeport, respectively.
