Lady Hornets split pair with Tucker Valley

ELKINS — Elkins and Tucker Valley split a pair of contests Monday in middle school basketball action at EMS Gymnasium.

The Lady Hornets (7-2) won the varsity contest 29-27 behind 12 points from Emerson Haddix. Addy Cogar added eight points for the hosts.

Macy Helmick paced the Lady Wildcats (4-4) with 11 points.

“It was a great team win for us and our kids had great effort and poise,” said Elkins coach Clint Bennett. “We’ve played many close games this year and our girls don’t get rattled. Hats off to Tucker Valley, they’re a tough team.”

Tucker Valley won the junior varsity game 23-15 as Makenna Evans led the way for the visitors with eight points.

Erin Collins paced Elkins (5-2) in the junior varsity setback with four points. Mallory Bennett followed with three.

The Lady Hornets will travel to Philippi Middle School for their next contest on Thursday. The Lady Wildcats will visit Moorefield the same evening.
