Lady Irish too much for TV

MILL CREEK — Morgan Turner and Emilee Henderson scored 18 points each to lead Notre Dame to a 49-31 victory over Tygarts Valley Friday night at TVHS gymnasium.

The Lady Irish, who improved to 4-2 with the win, took advantage of 19 first-half turnovers from the Lady Bulldogs (4-6) to build a comfortable 36-7 lead at the break.

“We couldn’t make a shot and we didn’t play any defense at all in the first half,” said Tygarts Valley coach Nancy Lewis. “We had way too many turnovers and put ourselves in a deep hole early on.”

The Lady Bulldogs outscored the visitors 6-4 in the third quarter and 18-9 in the final period.

“We played a lot better defense in the third quarter and we finally got something going on offense in the fourth,” said Lewis. “It was just a little too late.”

Bailee Yokum also reached double figures for the Lady Irish with 11 points.

Abby Lanham led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 points. Abi Cabaniss followed with nine points and six rebounds.

Kendall Cutright chipped in six points and six caroms for Tygarts Valley, while Tatum Wamsley pulled down seven boards. Landrie Lanham had three steals and three assists to go with three points.

The Lady Bulldogs will entertain South Harrison for a 7:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday.
