Lady Senators snap losing streak

ELKINS — Jamiyah Johnson collected a double-double with 26 points and 15 rebounds to help power Davis & Elkins to an 84-66 win over Alderson- Broaddus Monday in non-conference action at the McDonnell Center.

The Lady Senators (3-13), who snapped a five-game losing streak with the victory, trailed 19-14 after on quarter but battled back in the second set to take a 39-38 lead at the half.

Davis & Elkins used a 25-19 scoring advantage in the third quarter to extend its lead to 64-57 entering the final frame. The Lady Senators sealed the win by opening the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run as a Johnson lay-in with 4:25 pushed the deficit to 76-59.

Jessica Eadsforth-Yates added 15 points for Davis & Elkins, while Sydney Nestor scored 13 points and grabbed eight caroms.

Peyton Mohler also reached double figures for the Lady Senators with 11 points. Jay Kilpatrick chipped in eight points, five assists and three boards.

Jeana Weatherspoon paced the Lady Battlers (6-13) with 16 points and six rebounds. Madeline Moyer followed with 15 points and Ta’Sharra Jeffries scored 12.

Alderson-Broaddus, which has lost six straight, will travel to Bluefield State College on Jan. 27 for its next matchup.

Davis & Elkins will entertain Fairmont State for a Mountain East Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
