Little Lady Bucs get past Elkins; JV Lady Hornets win

ELKINS  — Kenna Maxwell tallied 14 points to lead Buckhannon-Upshur to a 29-24 decision over Elkins Friday night in varsity action at EMS gymnasium.

Emerson Haddix led the Lady Hornets (6-2) with 12 points, followed by Laney Fletcher with five and Addy Cogar with four.

“It was a battle,” EMS coach Clint Bennett said. “Hats off to Buckhannon. They have a very good program and are physical tough.

“It’s the second time we’ve come up short against them. We had a few lapses but our effort was outstanding tonight.”

Maddie Zirkle scored six points and Maura O’Neill five as Elkins won the preliminary junior varsity contest, 17-10.

Brooklyn Smith finished with five points to lead B-UMS in the setback.

The Lady Hornets will remain home on Monday to face Tucker Valley. Junior varsity action begins at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity contest.

The Little Lady Bucs will entertain Central Preston on Tuesday.
