ELKINS — Marley Washenitz scored 24 points and Class AA, No. 5 Fairmont Senior used a big second half en route to a 64-23 win over Elkins Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Lady Polar Bears (8-2, 3-1 Big 10) took a 12-point cushion into the half, at 26-14, before erupting in the third stanza.

Senior opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run as an Emily Starn layin at 4:49 mark pushed the deficit to 34-16.

The visitors iced the win by limiting the Lady Tigers (4-7, 2-5) to just two more points the rest of the quarter, extending the margin to 43-18 entering the fourth.

“The effort from our kids was there throughout the game,” said Elkins coach Matt Davis. “Fairmont Senior has a talented team and they did some things in the second half that affected what we wanted to do.”

Aaliyah Hogue added four points for the Lady Tigers, while Alyssa Severino tallied three points and four caroms.
