Shriver’s four-point play lifts AB

West Virginia State uses late run to edge Bobcats, 85-84

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Alderson Broaddus collected its second straight win with an 85-83 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan Saturday in G-MAC play.

Malik Bocook and Josh Bradford each scored 23 points for the Battlers (4-11, 3-4 G-MAC), while K.J. Walker netted 15 and David Shriver 12.

Bocook and Troy Cantrell had eight rebounds each, and Walker dished out six assists to go along with four steals.

Shriver converted a four-point play with 59 seconds left in regulation to give AB the lead for good at 81-80.

Louisville transfer Jo Griffin led the Panthers (6-9, 5-3) with 26 points. Adam Goetz added 19 and Wyatt Battaile and Zach Hopewell 12 each.

The Battlers will return home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to face Walsh (13-2, 4-1 G-MAC).

W.Va. St. 85, Wesleyan 84

BUCKHANNON — Michael Seals scored four points over the final 24 seconds to lift West Virginia State to an 85-84 win over West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday in Mountain East Conference action at Rockefeller Center.

The Bobcats (5-9, 4-4 MEC) led 82-81 before Seals hit a jumper with 24 seconds remaining to give the Yellow Jackets (10-3, 5-3 MEC) an 83-82 lead. Seals connected on two free throws with seven seconds remaining to make it 85-82.

Anthony Pittman led the way for State with 21 points, followed by Jeremiah Moore (19), Seals (15), Glen Abram (12) and Treohn Watkins (10).

Ross Young posted a game-high 25 points for Wesleyan, which will host Concord at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in MEC action.

Women’s games

W.Va. St. 93, Wesleyan 84

BUCKHANNON — Behind a 34-point fourth quarter, West Virginia State downed West Virginia Wesleyan, 93-84, Saturday afternoon in MEC action inside Rockefeller Center.

Charity Shears fired in 38 points, including a MEC record 12 3-pointers, for the Lady Yellow Jackets (6-8, 4-4 MEC).

Hannah Shriver added 22 points.

Abi Gabauer scored 21 points, while Nicole Gilyard added 20 for the Lady Bobcats (3-11, 1-7).

Wesleyan will entertain Concord at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in another league contest.

Kentucky Wesleyan 60

Alderson Broaddus 47

OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Alderson Broaddus women’s basketball team dropped a 60-47 verdict to G-MAC foe Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.

Kaylee Clifford had 18, Keelie Lamb 12 and Tahlia Walton 10 for the Panthers, who are now 16-1 overall and 7-1 G-MAC.

Mara Jimenez Montes had 13 points, Hannah Henderson 11 and Yolanda Florido 10 for the Lady Battlers (6-10, 3-5).

Jimenez Montes also had eight rebounds and five blocked shots and Florido four assists in a losing effort.

AB will host Walsh at 5:15 p.m. Thursday for a league contest.
