Bearcats get Big 10 win over Tigers

ELKINS — Jack Faulkiner poured in 25 points to help power Grafton to a 73-45 win over Elkins Friday night in Big 10 Conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

The Bearcats (10-8, 6-5 Big 10) held a slim 19-16 advantage before distancing themselves from the Tigers (6-11, 4-6) in the second quarter. A short jumper from Faulkiner with 1:30 left in the opening half capped off a 12-5 to start the second, giving the visitors a 31-21 edge.

Elkins’ Brayden Davis cut the lead to single digits with a score inside, but Grafton scored the final four of the quarter to take a 35-23 lead at the break.

The Bearcats kept rolling in the third quarter and pushed the deficit to as many as 21 points as a 3-pointer from Faulkiner with one minute to play in the quarter made it 51-30. Grafton went on to take a 55-35 lead into the fourth.

Faulkiner wasn’t the only bright spot for the Bearcats as Ryan Maier also had a big night, connecting on five treys to finish with 15 points. Blake Moore also reached double digits with 14.

Dre Owens paced Elkins with 11 points. Mason Kimbleton followed with nine points and Blake Harris scored eight. Davis chipped in with seven.

The Tigers will travel to Nicholas County on Tuesday. The Bearcats will entertain rival Philip Barbour on Wednesday.
