Top-seed University rallies in second half to eliminate Lady Bucs

BRIDGEPORT — The Elkins High School girls basketball team saw their season come to a conclusion in a 54-32 setback to Bridgeport Tuesday night in Class AA, Region II, Section 1 play.

Annamarie Pinti drilled five 3-pointers in finishing with 17 points for the Lady Indians, who improved to 12-11 and will travel to Lincoln in Thursday’s sectional title game.

Paige Humble added 12 points and Madison Wilson 10 for the winners.

Sophomore Anna Belan had 13 points and Madison Holland had 10 points and six rebounds to pace the Lady Tigers. Lyllian Bradberry chipped in five caroms.

Bridgeport took control by outscoring Elkins, 18-4, in the first quarter and leading 31-14 at halftime.

Buckhannon-Upshur senior Brooklyn Maxwell concluded her prep career with 13 points during Tuesday night’s sectional setback at University.

The Lady Tigers finished with a 6-17 record. Seniors on the squad included Holland, Alyssa Severino and Lexi Hare.

TENNERTON – Top-seed University rallied in the second half to get past Buckhannon-Upshur, 43-34, Tuesday night in Class AAA, Region I, Section 2 semifinal action.

The Lady Bucs, who led 25-18 at halftime, finished the season with a 13-10 record.

They were outscored 25-9 in the second half.

Senior Brooklyn Maxwell scored 13 points in her final game for the Lady Bucs, followed by junior McKenzie Reynolds with 11.

Leading scorer Shelby McDaniels was held to just three points, while Kennedy Samargo also had three points and senior Kassidy Wilfong and Kiara Woods two each.

The Lady Hawks will host Morgantown at 7 p.m. Thursday in the sectional title game.
