Hurricane bests PB boys in Little General Shootout

Matlick fires in career-high 32 in 75-65 loss

INSTITUTE — Philip Barbour sophomore Jesiah Matlick poured in a career-high 32 points early Tuesday morning, but it wasn’t enough as the Colts endured a 75-65 setback against Hurricane in the Little General Shootout being held at West Virginia State University.

The Redskins jumped out to a 19-7 lead in the first quarter before posting a 16-12 effort in the second period to take a 35-19 advantage at the intermission break.

Philip Barbour trimmed the deficit some with a 19-15 third-canto win.

Both teams put up several more points in the fourth frame with the Colts edging Hurricane with a 27-25 tally.

Matlick also shot 7 of 9 from the charity stripe, pulled down nine rebounds and nabbed three steals.

Gage Bibey and Logan Ball netted six points each.

Bibey added six assists and three boards, while Ball dished out three assists. Caden Hawkins chipped in with four points and three takeaways.

Austin Dearing had 27 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Hurricane in the win.

Philip Barbour (6-11 overall, 1-2 section) will be looking to put a stop to a four-game losing stretch on Saturday when traveling to sectional opponent Berkeley Springs (10-7 overall, 2-4 section) for a 3:30 p.m. tip time.
