Tucker falls at home
Late charge lifts Class AA, No. 3 Frankfort
HAMBLETON — Class A, No. 6 Tucker County sparred well in the opening quarter and stayed in the game throughout before inheriting a 69-51 setback against double-A, No. 3 Frankfort on Tuesday night.
The Lady Falcons (17-1) picked up their only loss of the season against current Class AA, No. 1 North Marion earlier in the season.
“We hung tough with them for three-and-a-half quarters,” Lady Mountain Lions coach Dave Helmick said. “We were in foul trouble the whole night and just couldn’t get over the hump. We battled well but just couldn’t get back while facing a good team in Frankfort.”
In a back-and-forth first quarter that saw three lead changes, Tucker County carried a 17-16 cushion into the second canto.
Frankfort took the lead for good, however, at 19-17 after Maria Perdew hit her third and final trey of the contest. The Lady Falcons went on to use a 23-11 run in order to manufacture a 39-28 halftime advantage.
A 16-14 edge by FHS in the third stanza extended the visitors’ lead to 55-42 entering the fourth frame, where the Lady Falcons put up a 14-9 effort to close out the contest.
Tucker County senior Terra Kuhn paced the black and gold with 17 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 21 total points to go along with nine rebounds.
Sophomore point guard London Hood recorded 15 points while shooting 5 of 6 at the foul line.
Kadie Colebank with seven points and five boards, Gracie Rapp four points and Nevaeh Nichols four points also chipped in for the hosts.
Perdew led Frankfort with 20 in the scoring column. Halley Smith added 14 and Makenna Douthitt 13.
Tucker County (12-7) will host Notre Dame (7-10) on Thursday.
