Lady Senator lacrosse team gets first victory

D&E overcomes four-goal deficit to best Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. — The Davis & Elkins women’s lacrosse team earned a 15-12 win over Southern Wesleyan on Saturday.

The Lady Senators capped their spring break trip with a 1-2 mark.

Responding from a 9-5 deficit, D&E outscored SWU 10-6 over the final 30 minutes to move in front.

Angelina Horan led the Lady Senators with five goals on nine shots, adding two ground balls, a caused turnover and seven draw controls to her credit. Samantha Cozzolino added three goals and four ground balls, while Taylor Baker, Kathleen Shaw and Courtnie Couch had two goals each.

In goal, Surelys Baez made eight saves before Stacey Marcelin made three stops over the final 29:48.

Tabitha Beecher notched five goals for the Warriors and Kaeleigh McDaniel recorded 14 saves.

D&E will open the home portion of its schedule at 4 p.m. Wednesday against Edinboro.
