BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man was arrested for allegedly stealing items from a residence in early February.

Brandon Cole Cartrette, 24, of French Creek, allegedly broke into a home on Kesling Mill Road on the night of Feb. 6, according to the criminal complaint in the Upshur County Magistrate Clerk’s office.

Senior Trooper P.J. Robinette with the Buckhannon detachment of the West Virginia State Police responded to a burglary complaint on Friday, Feb. 7 in which the homeowner, David Wright, stated someone had broken into his residence while he was not there, the complaint said.

The back door had a broken pane of glass with glass on the outside and inside of the door. A Remington 760 30-6 rifle valued at approximately $800 and about $10 to $15 in change was taken from the residence, according to the complaint.

Robinette obtained an audio statement from Cartrette on Tuesday, April 21 in which Cartrette allegedly confessed to forcing entry and stealing the above items and other miscellaneous items.

Cartrette was arrested for burglary, a felony, and arraigned before Magistrate Kay Hurst who set bond at $10,000.

If convicted, Cartrette carries confinement in the state correctional facility for one to 15 years.
