SSAC releases fall sports postseason guidelines
Area players, coaches and athletic directors will be keeping a close eye on this Saturday’s DHHR color-coded map as postseason play is set to get underway.
The WVSSAC announced postseason guidelines on Thursday afternoon.
Schools in counties that are green, yellow and gold on the map are eligible to participate in the postseason.
However, counties listed as orange will not be allowed to compete.
Soccer sectionals and cross county regionals are set to begin next week, while volleyball sectionals and football playoffs next month.
Cross country teams in orange counties may participate in regionals and states if they receive a negative COVID-19 test within seven days of the start of the event.
In this past Saturday’s map, Randolph and Barbour counties were listed as gold and Upshur was orange.
On Wednesday, Randolph County moved to orange on the DHHR color-coded county map.
Most sporting events at Elkins High School, Buckhannon-Upshur, Tygarts Valley and Philip Barbour have been idle the past two weeks.
Elkins, B-U and Philip Barbour didn’t participate in the Big 10 Conference cross country championships held Wednesday in Taylor County.
Elkins and Tygarts Valley were able to meet in football last Friday as gold can face in-county opponents or other gold counties.
But the EHS, B-U and Philip Barbour will be idle this evening.
Tygarts Valley will visit Ravenswood and Tucker County returns to the field for the first time since Sept. 18 when it entertains Hundred.
