Tigers 12th, Bulldogs ninth in ratings

Both teams back in action Friday after being idle last week

The Inter-Mountain file photo Elkins and Tygarts Valley battle during a game from Oct. 9. Both teams were idle last week and will return to the field on Friday as the Tigers face Fairmont Senior in Mill Creek and the Bulldogs visit Pocahontas County.

ELKINS — After being idle last week due to COVID-19 protocol, Elkins and Tygarts Valley will continue their playoff quests this Friday night.

The Tigers, 12th in the SSAC Class AA playoff ratings released on Tuesday, will battle No. 6 Fairmont Senior at Bulldog Field in Mill Creek, while the Bulldogs travel to Pocahontas County and are rated ninth in single-A.

Elkins (4-2) has not played since handing Tygarts Valley its lone loss of the season back on Oct. 9. The Tigers have been on the road the entire campaign after Wimer Stadium was closed to public events due to the bleachers being deemed unfit.

The Bulldogs (6-1), meanwhile, defeated Ravenswood in their last game action on Oct. 16.

South Charleston, Cabell Midland, Martinsburg, Musselman and Wheeling Park comprise the top five in Class AAA in this week’s ratings.

The double-A leader is Sissonville, followed by Bluefield, Frankfort, Oak Glen and Liberty-Raleigh.

Doddridge County, Greenbrier West and Tug Valley are the top three teams in Class A, with Williamstown and St. Marys tied for fourth.

East Hardy is seventh, Petersburg 10th and Pendleton County is tied with Tolsia for 11th.

The state playoffs are tentatively slated to get underway on Nov. 13. The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the postseason.
