Tigers move up one spot in ratings

Bulldogs drop to 11th in ‘A’ after hard-fought setback against EHS

The Inter-Mountain photo by Edgar Kelley Elkins coach Evan Hott meets with his team during last Friday’s win over Tygarts Valley at Bulldog Field in Mill Creek. The Tigers are 11th in this week’s SSAC playoff ratings. The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs.

ELKINS — Elkins moved up one spot in the WVSSAC playoff ratings released on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers improved to 4-2 after a hard-fought 39-34 win over Tygarts Valley last Friday. They are now 11th in double-A.

It was the first meeting between the Randolph County schools in varsity football.

The 5-1 Bulldogs, who suffered their first loss of the season, dropped from fourth to 11th in Class A.

Both teams — as of press time on Tuesday — are not scheduled to play this week.

The Tigers were slated to visit Class AAA, No. 2 Bridgeport and Tygarts Valley was set to host South Harrison.

But Harrison County schools were orange in Saturday’s COVID-19 metrics map.

Randolph County was gold, meaning teams must play other gold counties or in-county opponents.

Cabell Midland (AAA), Bluefield (AA) and Doddridge County (A) are rated first in their respective classes this week.
