Lady Senators fall to West Virginia State

INSTITUTE — West Virginia State used a decisive second quarter on its way to a 120-77 win over Davis & Elkins Saturday afternoon in MEC women’s action.

The Lady Yellow Jackets outscored the Lady Senators 38-14 in the second quarter, shooting 54 percent from the field and hitting seven threes.

Charity Shears hit eight 3-pointers on the day and finished with 24 points for WVSU (3-3, 3-3 MEC). Destiny Fields had 18 points and five rebounds, while Chloe Cheresne had 16 points and four boards. Shelby Harmeyer and Kalia Cunningham each contributed 12 points.

Jamiyah Johnson had 20 points and 19 rebounds for D&E (1-4, 1-4 MEC). Sydney Nestor also had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Peyton Mohler and Lena Lee each had 11 points each.

The Lady Senators travel to Fairmont State at 6 p.m. today.

Alderson

Broaddus 90, Fairmont State 81

FAIRMONT– Alderson Broaddus held off Fairmont State and picked up a 90-81 MEC road win Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.

Iyahnna Williams scored 17 points and had seven rebounds for the Lady Battlers (3-3, 3-3 MEC). Celeste Walters and Madeline Moyer each scored 14, and Saniya Dorsey tossed in 13. Kristy Galea chipped in 12.

Sierra Kotchman led all scorers with 25 points for the Lady Falcons (1-4, 1-4 MEC). Jertaya Hall netted 15 and Katy Darnell had 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.

AB returns to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday at home against Davis & Elkins in another league contest.

Charleston 91, West Virginia Wesleyan 50

CHARLESTON — No. 9 Charleston posted a 91-50 over West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in MEC action at the Innovation Center.

The Lady Golden Eagles kept their unbeaten record intact and are now 6-0 overall and 6-0 in MEC action. The Lady Bobcats dropped to 0-6 and 0-6.

Erykah Russell had a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Brooklyn Pannell had 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Dakota Reeves hit five 3-pointers and finished with 16 points.

Symphonie Bryant-Brown had nine points for the Bobcats. Cierra Tolbert had eight points and team-best nine rebounds.

Wesleyan will visit Notre Dame College at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
