No. 9 UC too much for D&E; Lady Battlers win

ELKINS — Brooklyn Pannell fired in 32 points as No. 9 Charleston cruised to an 84-55 win over Davis & Elkins Wednesday in Mountain East Conference play at the McDonnell Center.

The Lady Golden Eagles (5-0, 5-0 MEC) also received 20 points and nine rebounds from Erykah Russell and 12 points from Anastasiia Zakharova.

Sydney Nestor and Allie Taylor paced the Lady Senators (1-3, 1-3) with nine points each.

Jamiyah Johnson chipped in eight points to go along with14 rebounds.

D&E was plagued by 28 turnovers and connected on just 21 of 66 shots from the floor for 31.8 percent.

UC, meanwhile, canned 45.8 percent of its field-goal attempts, hitting 33 of 72 shots. The Lady Golden Eagles only committed 11 turnovers.

UC took control early, outscoring D&E 28-14 in the opening quarter and carrying a 46-24 lead into the intermission. The visitors then outscored the hosts, 26-12, in the third frame to open up a 72-36 edge entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Senators will travel to West Virginia State at 2 p.m. Saturday for another MEC contest.

AB 93, Frostburg St. 70

PHILIPPI — Carissa Spiker led a balanced-scoring attack for Alderson Broaddus with 20 points in a 93-70 MEC win over Frostburg State Wednesday at Rex Pyles Arena.

Madeline Moyer added 17 points off the bench for the Lady Battlers (2-3, 2-3 MEC). Kristy Galea chipped in 14, Shay Harper 13 and Iyahnna Williams 11.

The AB reserves accounted for 52 points.

Morgan Dombroski and Drew Dunathan had 13 each for the Lady Bobcats (2-3, 2-3). Brenae Ford also reached double figures with 12.

The Lady Battlers will travel to Fairmont State at 2 p.m. Saturday.

W.Va. State 103

Wesleyan 68

BUCKHANNON — West Virginia State placed six players in double figures in racing to a 103-68 win over winless West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday evening in MEC action at the Rockefeller Center.

Destiny Fields came off the bench to score 18 points to lead the Lady Yellow Jackets (2-3, 2-3 MEC), followed by Payton Shears with 15, Kalia Cunningham 13, Shelby Harmeyer 11 and Alexis Hall and Charity Shears with 10 each.

Abi Gabauer had a game-high 26 points for the Lady Bobcats (0-5, 0-5).

Wesleyan visits Charleston at 2 p.m. Saturday.
