Senators fourth in MEC poll
Wesleyan picked third, AB fifth
BRIDGEPORT — The University of Charleston has been picked by a vote of the league’s coaches to win the Mountain East Conference men’s soccer title this spring.
The MEC will play an eight-game, round-robin schedule beginning in late February. The top four teams in the standings will advance to the MEC Tournament, which will be played on campus sites.
Charleston finished atop the poll with 64 points, including eight first-place votes.
The Golden Eagles are the defending champions in NCAA Division II taking the title in December of 2019. UC brings back multiple starters from that championship team, and will be guided by first-year head coach Daniel Smee.
Notre Dame was second in the poll with 57 points and had one first-place vote. The Falcons have finished second in the MEC table each of the last two seasons. West Virginia Wesleyan was picked third with 46 points, followed closely by Davis & Elkins with 43 points. Alderson Broaddus was fifth (34), followed by Frostburg State (28), Wheeling (24), and Concord and West Liberty (tied with 14).
